Moscow Polytechnic University Answers Frequently Asked Questions About Dormitories

Autumn is the time when students move into the dormitories of Moscow Polytechnic University’s student campus. At the beginning of the new academic year, the University has already accommodated 932 first-year bachelor’s, master’s and postgraduate students. Starting a new chapter of independent life usually raises many questions for first-year students and their parents. We have collected answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

Moscow Polytechnic University’s student campus includes 11 dormitories accommodating more than 5,000 students. They are divided into three types: corridor-style dormitories, with up to three students sharing a room; block-style dormitories, with two rooms per block accommodating a total of 5–6 students; and apartment-style dormitories, with 1–3 rooms per apartment accommodating a total of 3–7 students. Dormitory facilities generally include a study room or coworking space, laundry facilities and free Wi-Fi. Some dormitories also have a gym and sports facilities.

— Under what conditions are dormitory places allocated?

— For first-year full-time students, dormitory places are allocated according to their admission ranking. The higher the average entrance examination score with which an applicant was admitted to the University, the higher their position in the ranking and their chances of receiving a dormitory place.

Points awarded for individual achievements — such as graduating from school with honours, earning a GTO fitness badge or volunteering — are not taken into account when allocating dormitory places.

Separate rankings are compiled for bachelor’s, specialist, master’s and postgraduate students, as well as separately for male and female students.

For second-year and senior students, dormitory places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis: when a place becomes available, it is offered to the student who submitted their application and joined the waiting list earlier.

— How many dormitories are currently under renovation?

— Renovation of the buildings on Moscow Polytechnic University’s student campus is carried out on an ongoing basis. Currently, Dormitory No. 7, a corridor-style dormitory at the Pavla Korchagina campus, is undergoing renovation. Once the work in Dormitory No. 7 is completed, residents of Dormitory No. 9 are expected to move there so that Dormitory No. 9 can subsequently be renovated.

— Are rooms in Moscow Polytechnic University dormitories renovated?

— Selected renovation works are carried out in the dormitories according to an annually approved maintenance and renovation schedule.

— Under what conditions can a student receive reimbursement for part of the cost of renovating their room?

— A full-time state-funded student who has carried out renovation work in their dormitory room should obtain a certificate of completed works from the dormitory administrator, submit an application for financial assistance through their personal account, and bring the original certificate to Room V-202 at the University building located at 38 Bolshaya Semyonovskaya Street.

The maximum reimbursement for cosmetic repairs is RUB 15,000.
