Moscow Polytech Shows High Results in Research Productivity Ranking for Engineering and IT
According to the 2026 ranking of research productivity among Russian universities, prepared by the Expert Analytical Center, Moscow Polytechnic University holds strong positions in a number of strategically important research areas. Growth compared with last year was recorded in such fields as "Engineering", "Materials Science", and "Energy". In "Computer Science" and "Earth Sciences", Moscow Polytech entered the Expert ranking for the first time and immediately secured worthy positions in the TOP-30. The University is also noted in such areas as "Chemical Technologies", "Ecology", "Metallurgy", "Renewable Energy", "Fuel", and "Social Sciences".
In total, the 2026 ranking analyzed the quality and impact of research publications by 142 Russian universities in 17 subject rankings and 13 thematic sections (narrow areas within subjects). Data from journals indexed in the Scopus database were used.
The methodology of the Expert Analytical Center ranking is based on three blocks: Scale (30%), Demand (35%), and Excellence (35%). The ranking takes into account the number of research publications, the Hirsch index, the average citation level, and the share and quality of articles in first-quartile journals, among other indicators.
In 2026, the ranking was conducted for the first time in such thematic areas as "Arctic Research", "Cybersecurity", "Quantum Technologies", "Automated Technologies and Robotics", "Semiconductor Technologies", and "Energy Storage"; in almost all of these areas, Moscow Polytech is among the TOP-30 Russian universities.
"The University's strong positions in the ranking confirm the importance of the research that is being conducted at the University. Research teams are strengthening their work in areas that drive the country's technological development: engineering, digital technologies, new materials, robotics, and transport. It is important for us that research results do not remain only in publications, but are applied to real projects we implement together with industrial partners," Anton Nalivaiko, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs of Moscow Polytechnic University, said.
In total, based on the results of research conducted in 2025, Moscow Polytech scientists published more than 2,600 papers, including 1,428 publications for conference proceedings, 732 research articles in journals, 267 conference abstracts, 30 monographs, and other publications.
In autumn 2025, seven Moscow Polytech scientists were included in the annual international ranking of the world's TOP 2% most-cited scientists. The ranking was presented by Elsevier, one of the world's largest scientific and academic publishing companies, and includes only those researchers whose works were most in demand and frequently cited in Scopus.
