Moscow Polytechnic University’s International Students Win Bronze at International Football Tournament
Moscow hosted the Football Moms Cup: Russia–Africa, an international tournament held to mark the Russia–Africa Summit. Moscow Polytechnic University’s team, Polytech Africa, won bronze. The result inspired the players to propose forming two football teams for African students at the university, one women’s and one men’s.
The tournament was organised by the Football Moms Sports Development Association with support from the Roscongress Foundation. Players from Africa and Russia competed on the pitch and shared their cultural traditions. The programme featured performances, and the Russian teams welcomed their guests with pies and gifts, including scarves, birch sap and traditional kokoshnik headdresses. Guests of honour highlighted the significance of the event.
The tournament brought together players from Nigeria, Chad, Egypt, Burkina Faso, Angola, Congo, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Ethiopia. Russia was represented by teams from Moscow and the Moscow Region, including Zelenograd, Orekhovo-Zuyevo and Dmitrov, as well as from Smolensk and St Petersburg.
The Moms and Afro Queens emerged as winners after closely contested matches. Moscow Polytechnic University’s team held its nerve in a penalty shootout to secure third place and the bronze medals.
The Moscow Polytechnic University squad included Maria Dorcas Massa (Angola), Diva Diviane Gomes (Angola), Kenzi Montasser Ahmed Abdueaf (Egypt), Nardos Atlabachew Tesfaye (Ethiopia), Veroni Missakidi Ndulu (Congo), Kafui Antoinette Amedume (Ghana), Runyararo Flora Tanamayi (Zimbabwe), Leonora Araújo Paulo (Angola), Rusmila Ay ingono Nsue Asangono (Equatorial Guinea), Margarida Manuela Menezes (Angola) and Liliana da Silva João (Angola).
