Moscow Polytech Student Takes Part in Youth Innovation Summit in South Africa

Philipp Karpukhin, a student at the Advanced Engineering School of Technological Leadership FDR at Moscow Polytech, delivered a presentation at the 4th BRICS+ Youth Innovation Summit 2026. The conference was held from April 9 to 11 at Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria (Tshwane), South Africa. He spoke on “Stages of Development and Testing of the FDR12 Hybrid Racing Sports Prototype.”

The summit, held under the motto “Youth‑Led Innovation for Sustainable Development,” brought together young innovators, entrepreneurs, investors, and experts from BRICS+ countries and the Global South to discuss the role of youth in sustainable development, global AI governance, and technological sovereignty. The keynote speaker was Sindisiwe Chikunga, Minister for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, who called on participants to shape AI governance standards, develop technologies, and strengthen community ties.

Philipp Karpukhin’s presentation attracted the attention of other participants because it showcased practical, hands‑on experience in developing a hybrid powertrain for a racing sports prototype. The project is run by the FDR Moscow engineering racing team at Moscow Polytech. His speech highlighted the university’s leadership in innovative hybrid technologies.

“I submitted a paper proposal and was selected to attend the summit. The university helped arrange the trip and was always on call to answer any questions. For me, as a young researcher, a student, and a future engineer, getting to attend a conference of this level feels almost surreal. It is not just a chance to travel to the other side of the world and see the beauty of South Africa. It is a chance to connect with people who can teach me so much. That kind of experience is invaluable for any young researcher.”

Participation in the summit strengthens Moscow Polytech’s international ties and promotes the team’s expertise in hybrid racing technologies. It also opens the door to commercialization and collaboration with BRICS+ partners.
