Students and staff of Moscow Polytech are invited to remember the outstanding engineer Christian Meyen; the founder of the Komisarov Technical School, from the opening date of which our university traces its 160-year history.
Christian Christianovich Meyen (1832–1875), an outstanding engineer, teacher and organizer of technical education in Russia. He was one of the key figures, who brought modern (for the 19th century) polytechnic schools to Russia.
In 1865, with active participation of Meyen, a vocational school was opened, later renamed the Komisarov Technical School, the predecessor of today’s Moscow Polytech.
Christian Christianovich was buried at the Vvedenskoye Cemetery in Moscow. An unusual monument has been erected to him – a high cross, made of rail strips, with wagon wheels at the foot, bound with a large chain.
If you study or work at Moscow Polytech, are interested in history, engineering or just respect people who changed the world for the better, you can visit Meyen’s grave, lay flowers and remember this outstanding person.
Trade Union Organization of Moscow Polytech organizes the visit
Gathering is scheduled for June 4, at 12:15 by the checkpoint at the address: Bolshaya Semyonovskaya Str., Bldg. 38
