Over 100 Graphic Artists and Designers Presented Graduation Projects at Public Defense

Moscow Polytechnic University hosted public thesis defenses for students of the V.A. Favorskii Institute of Graphics and Book Art. More than 100 graphic artists and designers presented their final projects to an expert committee, industry partners, prospective students and guests of the University.

Students of the "Design" program defended their graduation projects dedicated to the development of a set of visual communication or game design concepts. Students majoring in "Graphics" presented original illustrated publications and book design projects.

Even the titles of the graduation projects reflect the wide range of topics addressed by Moscow Polytechnic graduates. Among the projects were the Platonov Arts Festival "Platonov Fest", "Redkaya Zhara" ("Rare Heat") social festival, the "Siberian Cedar" eco-factory, the Yaroslavl Jazz Center, the "Mama" noodle brand in Russia, the computer games "Golden Gate" and "Reapers on a Part-Time Job", visual solutions for the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Khamovniki, a children's dental clinic and a gastrofestival, the Yakutsk International Festival, the "Life in Motion" charity foundation, and many others.

The students' works were evaluated by University faculty members, industry practitioners and industry partners. This year, the committee included representatives of MTS Web Services, the media design directorate of the "Rossiya Segodnya" ("Россия сегодня") media holding, the MORS International Festival of Book Illustration and Visual Literature, the K.O.T Publishing House, specialists fr om design bureaus, art editors, and art directors of publishing houses and libraries. Traditionally, representatives of the Zaryadye exhibition venue attended the public thesis defenses to sel ect projects for the autumn exhibition featuring works fr om Moscow's leading art and creative universities.

As the Director of the V.A. Favorskii Institute of Graphics and Book Art Yaroslav Dmitriev noted, the open format gives the defense a special status:

"Open defenses are not just an exam; they are a public presentation of the project to the professional community, faculty members, guests and future applicants. Public thesis defenses like these become a growth point wh ere yesterday's students take a confident step into the industry. I sincerely wish all alumni every success, new creative discoveries, and for every idea of theirs to resonate with audiences and customers," said Yaroslav Dmitriev.
