“Inspire the choice of a future profession”: Moscow Polytech held a master class for schoolchildren

School students of Balashikha were told about the advantages of studying at Moscow Polytech. On June 18, the Day of Technical Professions, a tour was conducted for the pupils to the local city-forming enterprise “Cryogenmash”, - a partner of the university. The students learnt about the history of the enterprise, as well as about science by taking part in master-classes. The specialists of Department “P.L.Kapitsa Low Temperature Technologies” of the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology organized the presentation.

The excursion became a part of the creative intensive “The City of Professions” for school students on summer holidays. Maria Ugolnikova and Varvara Chernyavskaya, the specialists of Moscow Polytech University, showed experiments with dry ice and balloons, as well as conducted master-classes, in one of which a rose was dipped in liquid nitrogen and, after freezing, was smashed like glass. As experts note, such meetings may inspire guys for choosing future profession, related to technical sphere. The presentation of the university was conducted under the supervision of Dmitry Nekrassov, Head of Department “P. L. Kapitsa Low Temperature Technologies”.

“I am finishing postgraduate studies, and our Department gives unique opportunities of working with liquid nitrogen, dry ice and various items of freezing equipment. The field of application of acquired knowledge is enormous. For example, I am invited to the projects on designing and engineering of trade centers, where cooling takes place with the help of refrigerating facilities – roof chillers, as well as in food industry and medicine. We tried to link a master-class with cinema, as refrigerating equipment often creates special effects in the movies with the help of dry ice or liquid nitrogen. All this is very spectacular with a minimum of complex processes”, - shared Varvara Chernyavskaya.
