Moscow Polytech Rector Discusses Training In-Demand Professionals on Radio Russia

Moscow Polytechnic University Rector Vladimir Miklushevskii spoke on the air of "Radio Russia" ("Радио России") about the University's revival of a practice-oriented education model. The model brings together educational process, scientific developments, and industrial production into a single chain.

"The world's leading universities, as well as the best universities in Russia and the Soviet Union, were built around this model. We are recreating it at Moscow Polytech," said Vladimir Miklushevskii.

The goal is to ensure that engineering graduates possess more than specialized technical knowledge. They should also be able to develop products as part of multidisciplinary teams that include design engineers, manufacturing engineers, economists, marketing and advertising specialists.

"The ability to develop a product as part of a team and in cooperation with an industrial enterprise is a key competency. Today, expertise in a single discipline alone is no longer enough," emphasized the Rector.

Students receive these competencies at the university. Moscow Polytechnic University has introduced a mandatory "Project Activity" basic course for all bachelor's and specialist's degree students. Working under the guidance of faculty members and industry experts, students generate ideas and develop them from concept to industrial production. A number of projects are carried out at the request of industrial partners.

Thus, the practice-oriented education model prepares graduates who are ready to contribute to industry from the very beginning of their careers. The labor market already reflects the model's effectiveness: 18 of Moscow Polytech's 27 academic programs rank among the TOP-10 in the National Graduate Employment Ranking, and more than 90% of the university's graduates work in their field of study.
