On June 5, the World Environment Day and Russia's Ecologist Day, Moscow Polytechnic University hosted the international round table "Environmental Safety". The event brought together students, postgraduate students and faculty members from Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, China, Syria and other countries.
The main purpose of the meeting was to draw the attention of students and faculty staff to addressing environmental challenges. The discussion was moderated by Marina Grafkina, Professor of the Department of Environmental Safety of Technical Systems at Moscow Polytech, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Laureate of the Russian Federation Government Prize in Education, and Honorary Professor of Moscow Polytech.
"Environmental safety is one of the highest priorities of state policy. Outdated resource-intensive industries are now being replaced by modern "green" technologies, which significantly improves both the environmental and economic performance of economic activities," said Marina Grafkina, emphasizing the importance of the issues discussed.
Alexey Chertkov, Deputy Director of the RUSSTRAT Institute of International Political and Economic Strategies, Associate Professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the A.S. Griboyedov Cultural Heritage Foundation Council, PhD in Historical Sciences, and member of the Union of Writers of Russia, addressed the participants of the round table with a welcoming speech.
The round table brought together:
- Kylyshbay Bissenov, Rector of Kyzylorda Open University, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, along with faculty members and students of the university;
- Bolortuyaa Jargalsaikhan, PhD in Technical Sciences and a lecturer at the National Technical University (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolian People's Republic);
- Nodira Gaibnazarova, Head of a department at the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Philosophy in Technical Sciences (PhD), a labor relations expert and Deputy of the Tashkent City Council of People's Deputies;
- Svetlana Soyustova, Associate Professor at the Department of Physics at Moscow Polytech;
- Anastasia Slepushkina, Deputy General Director of "Industrial Safety and Ecology" LLC; and other experts.
The speakers presented reports on the following topics:
"Addressing Environmental Challenges in Kazakhstan" (Kylyshbay Bissenov);
"Geoecological Aspects of Mongolia's Natural and Technogenic Systems" (Bolortuyaa Jargalsaikhan);
"Environmental Globalization and Key Features of Management in the Context of Globalization" (Ma Xuezhou, student of Moscow Pedagogical State University, China);
"Ecosociological Aspects of Environmental Safety in the Context of Sustainable Development" (Arnous Salman, a student from Moscow Pedagogical State University, Syria);
"Waste Management Challenges in the Arctic Zone" (Marina Grafkina, Russia);
"Industrial Ecology" (Nodira Gaibnazarova, Uzbekistan), among others.
The participants concluded that education in the field of environmental safety, along with fostering environmental awareness and responsibility among future professionals, plays an important role in achieving environmental safety goals.
