This program is for those who see the web not only as a technology, but also as a medium for creating user-friendly, aesthetically pleasing, and truly in-demand products. Here, engineering thinking meets a design-oriented approach—for those who want to not just participate in development, but shape the look of digital products that people enjoy using. The program is implemented in partnership with leading IT companies and is unique in the Russian educational space.
From the first semester, students study core disciplines: web technology fundamentals, digital design, network technologies, programming fundamentals—and immediately engage in project work. The second year adds algorithms and data structures, client-side and server-side web development, and, most importantly, user interface design for the web. The third year develops a specialization: product design and user experience, human-computer interaction design, probabilistic principles of web analytics, machine learning methods, and computer graphics technologies. The fourth year covers corporate information systems development, statistical methods of web analytics, web service design, modern software development methods, and deployment technologies. The curriculum is updated annually, and approximately 30% of the instructors are practitioners from leading IT companies.
Practical training is integrated into the program from day one: each semester includes course projects to practice the knowledge and skills acquired in the current and previous semesters. By graduation, each student has a portfolio of at least eight real-world projects. After the first year, an internship is possible as a content manager or web designer, and after the second year, as a junior developer or interface designer. The courses "Fundamentals of Technological Entrepreneurship" and "Entrepreneurial Management" teach how to transform academic projects into full-fledged startups: test hypotheses, improve the product, and enter the market quickly and consciously—with the support of the project center and industrial partners.
Research work in senior years focuses on user behavior, probabilistic analytics methods, statistical data analysis, and modern approaches to information systems design. The results of this research can form the basis of a final thesis at the intersection of technology, design, and data.
Fundamental mathematical training—linear algebra, probability theory, mathematical statistics, and mathematical logic—combined with analytical and project-based competencies opens up broad opportunities in the master's program: in UX research, digital product management, business informatics, and software engineering—both at Moscow Polytechnic University and at other leading universities.
Graduates in this specialization will be in demand as UX/UI designers, product managers, web analysts, full-stack and front-end developers, and product team leaders. Digital agencies, e-commerce platforms, corporate IT departments, media companies, and startup studios—anyone who creates digital products that are understandable and relevant to people—are interested in hiring graduates of this program. Students are divided into the "Web Development and Neural Network Technologies" and "Web Technologies and Product Design" programs after four semesters of study. Based on the results of the first 12 streams of the "Web Technologies" program, it is at the midpoint of their studies that students make a conscious choice about which trajectory to pursue next.
