According to the international research company Statista, the total volume of information created by humanity is estimated at 50 zettabytes (50 sextillion bytes) and will grow to 175 zettabytes by 2025, more than tripling in five years. A significant portion of this volume consists of personal data, information related to commercial and state secrets, critical information infrastructure, and the civilian digital footprint, which can be used to create an individual profile.
Information Security is an educational program in the field of information technology. The program's disciplines explore the holistic study of technology, people, information, and processes, aiming to ensure the continuity of their activities in the context of constant threats. The program is interdisciplinary, incorporating aspects of law, politics, human activity, ethics, risk management, and computer science.
At the core of information security is the protection of information—ensuring its confidentiality, availability, and integrity, as well as preventing any compromise. Cybersecurity specialists are tasked with ensuring the security of information systems from malicious cyberattacks, often aimed at stealing sensitive confidential information or taking control of an organization's internal systems.
Information security as a field of employment has developed and grown significantly in recent years. Numerous professional specializations have emerged, including network and infrastructure security, software and database protection, information systems auditing, business continuity planning, electronic records detection, and computer forensics. Information security professionals enjoy stable employment and are in high demand in the labor market. The world faces an ongoing and growing shortage of qualified cybersecurity specialists and practitioners. Both government and non-government sources predict that nearly 1.8 million cybersecurity-related positions will remain unfilled by 2022. The demand for professionals in this field is high and growing every year.
