How to Start Career at Moscow Polytech?

Daria Strekalina, PhD in Chemistry, head of department of Physics at Moscow Polytech, lead expert at “Mega Science” center, member of collaboration project LHCb at CERN (the largest lab in physics that carries out Large Hadron Collider experiments), TedX and Geek Picnic (large European popular scientific festival and open-air devoted to advanced technologies, science and creativity) speaker.

“If your eyes are burning with passion, you can learn anything”, Daria is sure, “as modern science is the most creative profession with an infinite number of resources to create something that hasn`t been there before.”

Indeed, Daria creates new materials and technologies. In particular, she works with complex components from high resistant alloys, additive technologies and is engaged into obtaining coatings from platinum group for medical products.

Daria is a supporter of a creative approach to science in the modern world. “If one would like to go into science, the background doesn`t matter. Scientists are creative people, they have freedom and unique thinking, that allows them to engage into interesting things. Science is the foundation for the development of humankind, therefore the prospects are increasing for young scientists”, shared Daria with the participants of the meeting that took place at the Entrepreneurship Boiling Point (“Tochka Kipeniya”) at Moscow Polytech.

Answering to the question “How does one start a career in science?” Daria shared her own experience of starting up and the benefits of profession of a scientist nowadays. She also encouraged the audience with the perspectives of professional development and dispelled the myths about the lack of demand for scientists, sharing the information about such support measures provided by the government and businesses as scholarships and grants. For Daria, as for the majority of scientists, science is an interesting world of the new and unexplored. Therefore, for those who are truly interested in science and are keen to try themselves in this sphere, there are no obstacles.

Among the benefits of a profession of a scientist, Daria noted its status, interest and relative freedom, as well as the possibility of creating new products. All these bring special joy from the results of the work, as in science negative results are indicators of achievement, too, the achievement that opens up new possibilities, at that. Daria shared life hacks on how to choose a topic of the research, find a research supervisor, and noted that it is important not to be afraid of changes.

Apart from the research activity and teaching at Moscow Polytech, Daria meets students and lecturers from other universities on a regular basis. Thus, during her lecture “Physics and Modern World” that she hosted at Kurgan State University, Daria talked about the biggest research project – Large Hadron Collider, what Russian scientists create and study in the field of fundamental physics, what problems they encounter and what competences are necessary to solve them.

Would you like to engage into science? Don`t hesitate. Join Moscow Polytech to contribute to the research in the field of creating technologies for the new and medicine physics, obtaining complex details for particle detectors at Mega Science, additive manufacturing of components and studying alloys for their further application in various spheres of life. Learn more about other opportunities to start your scientific career from Daria Strekalina`s research profile. Have you made up your mind? Then do join the “Open Doors” international olympiad and come to Moscow Polytech to use a unique opportunity for a free education at one of the advanced scientific and engineering center in Russia.
