Moscow Polytech and manufacturer of cable cars “RUSLET” to create a city cable taxi system

Moscow Polytech and the company “RUSLET” signed a cooperation agreement. In the framework of the partnership, a cable-transport system with a fully controlled rolling stock will be developed. The development will become the basis for the creation of a cable taxi in cities – a modern and environmentally friendly high-speed transport.

On September 16, 2024, “RUSLET” (is part of the Vasta Discovery Group of Companies) and Moscow Polytechnic University signed an agreement on partnership. The leading domestic manufacturer of cable railways and one of the major national universities preparing professional engineering staff, will jointly develop and manufacture the system of the city cable taxi. 

“We will be able to turn cable ways, famous for their traditional use, into “green” ecological transport for megacities. Together with Moscow Polytech, we will offer an efficient means of transport for the transport of Moscow and for other regions,” - noted Director General of “RUSLET” Dmitry Sidorovich.

“Today, we have one more important partner, and we will be glad to develop fruitful cooperation. Moscow Polytech will be able to get involved into the development, modeling of cable taxi system; also we will manage to manufacture various mechanisms for this technology,” - noted Director for Project Management and Engineering Products of the Advanced Engineering School of Electric Transport of Moscow Polytech Marat Tagayev.

Marat Tagayev underlined that students and specialists of AES of Electric Transport of Moscow Polytechnic University is the real elite of the University, and young engineering staff will be able to successfully join such an important strategic work. 

Cableways are not only the mountain ski lifts, but the city transport as well. The development of cable taxi (the cableway with stops for passengers) will be in demand in major Russia’s cities. As Dmitry Sidorovich clarified, cable taxi is a hybrid of traditional cableway and fully managed system, when a cabin moves independently. 

“The main idea of the cable taxi technology is that a CABIN can be called upon request. Each cabin has its own drive. It moves between destinations points. This is such a “smart «rolling stock, it can accelerate and break, stop at the right stations and open the doors. Or, for example, pass by a stop, which passengers do not need. And the main advantage of this transport is zero emissions, higher throughput, covering a large area due to branching. Cableway taxi may be rapidly engineered and installed at every location, even on difficult terrain. It fits to regions, where it is not possible to use a tram or a trolley-bus, but it is important to maintain environmental friendliness,” - says Director General of “RUSLET” Dmitry Sidorovich.

Also, Dmitry Sidorovich undelined that a cableway taxi will help to provide high mobility and to get away from dependence on traffic or complications with parking.

The project will be implemented at the plant “Tver’KanatDor” (the production site of “RUSLET”) in a special economic zone “Emmaus” in the Tver Region.

The tasks of import substitution in the sphere of manufacturing cable lifting mechanisms, moreover, from completely local (Russian) stuff, have been reinforced after 2022, when European manufacturers of cable lifting mechanisms withdrew from the Russian market. In 2024, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin set the task of providing the Russian market with domestic cableway equipment. The Government has developed the state-supported measures for domestic manufacturers of cableways.


Earlier, “RUSLET” jointly with Moscow Polytech and other leading universities of Russia (MSTU named after Bauman, MIET, Educational and Production Complex “Proton”) started the development of educational programs for training specialist engineering staff. The youth, demonstrating high-quality skills and knowledge, will manage to get involved into solving the problem of reviving the cable transport industry of the country.
