Moscow Polytech Delegation Visits the III International Conference RAIIC-2024 in China

Representatives of Moscow Polytechnic University took part in the III International Conference on Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Control 2024 (RAIIC-2024) in Mianyang, the People's Republic of China. Pablo Iturralde, Director of the Advanced Engineering School of Electric Transport, and Yulia Davydova, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, led the delegation. RAIIC-2024 brought together leading experts, scientists and practitioners from all over the world to exchange experience and discuss current issues in robotics, AI and intelligent control.

Employees of the Advanced Engineering School of Electric Transport of Moscow Polytech presented their reports about the development of hybrid propulsion systems for sports prototypes and shared their experience in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence.

Roman Zimov, a leading engineer of the NSP Electric Vehicle Engineering Development Centre, made a presentation on “Creating a Hybrid Electric Propulsion System for a Racing Sport Prototype”. In his presentation, he discussed in detail the application of hybrid propulsion systems in the world's leading racing series such as Formula 1, FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) and FIA World Rally Championship. Roman presented a detailed analysis of optimising the balance of mass and power in racecars, highlighting the importance of this factor in achieving high performance.

The presentation paid special attention to recuperative braking technologies, which play a key role in increasing the efficiency of hybrid propulsion systems. Roman spoke about different strategies for the use of hybrid components depending on the specifics of the race track and competition rules. An important part of the presentation was a comparative analysis of the performance of hybrid cars with classic propulsion systems, demonstrating the advantages of hybrid technology in modern motorsport.

Timofey Kuzma, an Engineer at the Reverse Engineering and Standardisation Centre of NSP Electric Vehicles presented the report “Components and control logic of a hybrid sports prototype”. He started by analysing current trends in the Hypercar, WRC Rally1 and Formula 1 categories, focusing on different approaches to hypercar production, including fully connected systems and integration of different components.

Timofey described in detail the key components of the high-voltage and low-voltage systems of hybrid vehicles, and gave an in-depth look at battery management systems. Timofey also highlighted safety mechanisms including full battery disconnection and localised device disconnection. The final part of the report was devoted to the logic of hybrid propulsion system operation with a demonstration of block charts and an explanation of the principles of configuration through the dashboard.
