Moscow Polytech Students Participate in Moscow Youth Football Tournament
Moscow Polytech African students took part in the Youth African Football Tournament. The event was organized by the Russian-African Club under Lomonosov MSU. The event was held at a football field at a multi sports complex “Kampus Kapitoliy”.
Representatives of Embassies of Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, CAR also joined the tournament. Among the guests there were the heads of the African diaspora in Russia and social organizations representatives. Apart from the University team, there were also teams from Cameroon, Ghana, as well as the teams from RUDN Unviersity, HSE and MISIS.
The tournament was opened by the director of the MSU Russian-African Club department for work with African diasporas, president of the Cameroon diaspora Louis Gouend. The famous USSR and Russian football coach Valeriy Nepomnyaschiy, too, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He was the leader of the Cameroon national team in 1990 at the World Championship in Italy, the first time when the African team managed to make it to the quarter-finals
At the tournament, Russian and African musicians performed, such as famous African artists Capitan Hood. The program was completed by performances by Moscow Polytech Students.
The Cameroon team became the winner in the finals. The African team from Moscow Polytech took the 4th place. It`s worth noting that the team never played in team standings before, for many players participated in such tournament for the first time.
