Moscow Polytech jointly with “Applied Robotics” conducted master-classes for schoolchildren
“Big Challenges”, the All-Russian competition among scientific and technological projects for high school and university students engaged in scientific or research activity, was held at the Sirius center within the period of July 1-24. Moscow Polytech’s staff participated in the event as curators and trainers.
The team from the “SMART-Technologies” Department of the IT Faculty at Moscow Polytech, jointly with their partner “Applied Robotics” represented by E.V. Petrunina (Head of the Department, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor) and E.A.Loguniva (Senior Lecturer at the Department), presented the project “Automation of Warehouse Services Using Robotic Systems” in the “Unmanned Transport and Logistics Systems” field.
The goal of the project is the development of a prototype for the automated warehouse servicing system using the means of manipulator robotics. High school students from Moscow and Moscow Region, Lipetsk Region and Krasnodar Territory took part in the project implementation.
During the project work, schoolchildren were introduced to fundamentals of modern robotics, mastered basic skills of working with Linux Ubuntu and ROS (Robot Operating System), basics of controller programming OpenCM, OpenCR, and of a single-board computer Raspberry Pi 4 using C++ and Python languages.
Special attention was paid to implementation of the navigation system using the method of simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) with an application of Kalman filter (EKF) and particles filter to predict the position of the robot, as well as to the development of a vacuum grip control system for the manipulator.
The participants presented the results of their work during the project defense activity at the festival.
