Curator is the first person who the first-year students meet when they get admitted to the University. They help students adapt to the University environment, establish good relations with other students, and eventually become their friends and mentors. The head of the “Moscow Poly Curators” community Anna Sazonova shared how curators are trained.
To acquire all necessary competencies in a short period of time, curators-to-be undertake 3-stage training at the “School of Curators”. The candidates study the principles of the community activity and consciously choose the trajectory for their development.
The educational meetings and workshops are often held on the “Polet” recreational base. During the lectures, the students dive into the theoretical basics – they study the University structure, basic legal regulations and adaptive course procedures. At the trainings and practical classes, the guys acquire applied skills of how solve problems and work with different types of personalities, and create the perfect image of a curator.
“Before the beginning of the new academic year, the curators are to pass two more training stages and test their knowledge – internship and exam. Over 80 people will welcome the freshmen to Moscow Poly at the adaptive course”, – says Anna Sazonova.
The demands are differ from year to year but most often according to the community members, the first-year students need assistance in terms of socialization and adaption in a new place. It`s as important to share the rules of the University and opportunities that it provides to every students. After that, in the course of the first academic year, the curators continues to communicate with group under their patronage, answers their questions on pressing issues, invites or organizes events to unite the academic collective.
