From Textbooks to the Tropics: Moscow Polytech Student's Internship in Thailand
Angelika Soshilova, a student fr om Moscow Polytech's Printing Faculty, has returned from an internship at the prestigious Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand. During her month-long stay, she focused on digital marketing and data science while exploring the culture of Southeast Asia. The opportunity was part of her university's international exchange program. For Angelika, the experience was more than just an academic course—it was a hands-on journey that allowed her to master new tools and connect with leading experts and students from around the globe.
What was the study program like, and what did you find most interesting?
"The schedule was packed. We had lectures on the latest trends in digital marketing, design, and data science fundamentals. Since everything was in English, it was great language practice. It felt like a true immersion into an international academic community."
Could you tell us how you became aware of this internship opportunity and the institution that hosted it?
"I found out about the exchange program through Moscow Polytech's international programs office. That's how I ended up at AIT in Thailand. They took great care of us from the start - we had a comfortable transfer with a personal driver, and the campus itself was stunning. It's a place wh ere modern architecture and advanced technology blend seamlessly with tropical nature."
What were your first impressions of the country?
"The first thing you notice is the tropical heat, which takes some getting used to. But that quickly fades into the background because you can't help but admire how lush and colorful everything is. Thailand's vibrant, joyful atmosphere captures you right away."
What skills fr om the internship do you value the most?
"Aside from deepening my core subjects, we learned basic Thai. That was a fascinating experience. I discovered how much tone and intonation matter—the same word can mean completely different things depending on how you say it. It really trains you to listen carefully when communicating."
How would you describe the vibe among the participants?
"The atmosphere was incredibly warm and welcoming. Our coordinator always greeted us with a smile and was ready to help with anything. It’s remarkable—in Thailand, warmth and kindness are part of everyday communication, and you can’t help but feel uplifted by it."
What stood out the most outside of your studies?
"Every moment of free time was an adventure! We visited an ancient Buddhist monastery, took a scenic evening cruise on the Chao Phraya River for a unique view of Bangkok, and of course, spent time in Pattaya, wh ere we swam in the warm sea. It was the perfect mix of learning and travel, and it left me with unforgettable memories."
