A team of nine students from Moscow Polytechnic University, led by their supervisor Anna Nikulina, has created an interactive augmented reality application “Robot Tour Guide”.
The project with the technology of augmented reality has been started jointly with the largest exhibition on achievements of robotics in Russia “Robostation” (the “Robot Corporation” project) in September 2023. The main advantage of the development is interactivity. For kids, it is more interesting to interact with a virtual robot by fun, which helps to get familiar with it, rather than listen to dry facts.
The idea of creating a virtual guide emerged during preparations of the museum expositions in a more attractive and understandable format for the younger audience.
The “Robot Tour Guide” is a mobile application with a 3D model of a friendly robot that meets your visitors in the interactive format and tells them about exhibits. The users may randomly study the object they become interested in, by scanning QR-codes and getting the information in the text, audio and video formats.
“Our main task is to keep the attention of children, to involve them into the cognitive process. For kids, it is more interesting to communicate with the cheerful virtual guide, than to listen to dry facts. Doing this, we adapt the content to various formats of perception in order to take into account the needs of all the visitors,”,- noted Vyacheslav Shekurov, a student and the project leader of Moscow Polytech.
According to Anna Nikulina, the uniqueness of the development is in its interactivity and adaptability for the young audience.
