The Moscow Poly projects at the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi

From October 14 to 22 the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students was held, which gathered about 30 thousand participants and visitors from 185 countries of the world in Sochi. For the first time in the framework of the event an exhibition of young engineers “New technologies and innovations” was arranged, and the Moscow Poly took part in it. Our students presented to the guests of the festival their developments: a racing car Iguana g9, electric motor bike Phoenix. Graduation projects of the Department “Design” also participated in the exhibition: a mobility concept for the future – a prototype of LADA 2050, a prototype of an electric baggy Volkswagen E-Manx, LADA X-Stream and others. And, as well, there was an educational project of the Center for Engineering Development – a car-constructor EDUCAR, able to reproduce lectures in virtual reality.

This year, for the first time in the history of the Festival, on the initiative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the RF, with participation of the foundation “Ot Vinta”, over 125 advanced projects of students and young specialists came to the event from enterprises from Russian regions and neighboring regions abroad. Young engineer presented their developments on the following directions: aviation, space, transport, shipbuilding, medicine, ecology and innovative developments for the industry.

The university was presented at the exhibition by projects of the Moscow Poly Center for Engineering Development, developments of the laboratories “Formula Student” and “SmartMoto” – a racing car Iguana g9 and an electric bike Phoenix, as well as an educational constructor EDUCAR. The racing car and the bike were manufactured by students in the framework of the project activity to take part in international competitions. According to the team leader of “FDR Moscow”, the Moscow Poly student Aleksandra Korzun, the Minister of Industry and Trade of the RF Denis Manturov, when visiting the stand of the Ministry, paid attention at the racing car. The Minister wished the team members to be careful in dealing with automotive transport and take care of their lives.

Attention of young forum participants was drawn to an educating car-constructor EDUCAR. A child first immerses in the process of an automobile creation, using the virtual reality glasses and viewing video lectures, and afterwards fixes the knowledge by designing a small car, a replica of a real automobile in the scale 1:38.

In addition, there were projects from the Moscow Poly transport faculty, participating in the exhibition – the projects by students of Department “Design”. The concept “LADA 2050” was developed with the support of the main automotive brand of Russia. This is a fantasy about transport of the future, a prototype of a self-driven two-seater shown on a magnetic levitation model to drive passengers between cities on conditions of a carsharing system. One more project of the Moscow Poly designers, which participated in the exhibition, was an electric baggy Volkswagen E-Manx. The car possesses such technological novelties as electric engines, body panels made of self-restoring polymers and a smart glass, capable of changing its optic qualities. The prototype was developed by a Moscow Poly student during his internship at a design studio of one of German concerns.

Participation in the exhibition allows young engineers both to present their developments and to hear their assessment by the best professionals in various industries, and, as well, to establish contacts with their colleagues from other countries. It is worth mentioning that the Moscow Poly stand arose grate interest not only among the students from all over the world, but also of experts and honorable guests of the festival: of First Deputy Head of Administration of the President of Russia and Head of the Russian Organizing Committee Sergey Kiriyenko, of Vice President of the Russian Railways Aleksandr Misharin, of Vice President for transport aviation of the PJSC “United Aerobuilding Corporation” Aleksey Rogozin.
