Acting Rector met with Vice President of the Russian Book Union

Acting Rector Vladimir Miklushevskiy met with the Managing Vice President of the Russian Book Union (RBU) Leonid Polko in the publishing house “Veche”.

Vladimir Miklushevskiy and Leonid Polko discussed the state of media industry and possible ways to cooperate in the sphere of personnel training for the Russian press. Improving quality of editors’ and journalists’ training, participation of students in industrial exhibitions and contests, involving industry specialists in educational process to deliver lectures and conduct master classes, interacting with employers – these and other directions can be laid in the basis of cooperation between RBU and the Moscow Poly.

The parties agreed on the idea that despite continuous renewal of the sphere of media, a printed word does not lose its relevance. Information carriers can change to electronic and audio ones, but as far there are authors and readers, publishing houses will play an important role in society. About 80% of the Russian book product is produced in Moscow and the Central Federal District. The Moscow Poly Higher School of Printing and Media Industry is a leading institution for training personnel for domestic publishers.

Founded in 2001, the RBU is a non-government non-profit organization, which brings together leading domestic publishers, book product distributors, printers, representatives of cultural, scientific, educational and library communities and paper industry, including a number of organizations of writers and associations; all in all, there are over 1 500 subjects of the book industry. Sergey Stepashin remains its President since establishment. An idea of serving a book, culture, spiritual development of the country has been laid in the basis of RBU activities. The Union sees its priorities as consolidation of efforts in reaching a coordinated policy, aimed at development of the Russian book industry; as promotion of educational, enlightening and cultural programs, aimed at making reading more popular and, as a result, as economic growth and improving competitiveness of Russia.
