The 5th season of the educational project University Saturdays was held at the Moscow Poly

Since the beginning of the academic year, 72 events of the open educational project “University Saturdays” were held on the platform of the Moscow Poly. The teachers and representatives of practical companies conducted for Moscow schoolchildren guided tours, lectures and master classes at the university laboratories.

The project is aimed at preparing the schoolchildren for acquiring professions of the future in demand, defining their educational requirements, and, as well, at creation of conditions for self-expression and joint work with children of their age, students and postgraduate students of universities. “Attending classes at the Moscow Poly in the framework of the project “University Saturdays” motivates the Moscow schoolchildren to choose professions of engineering direction”, - says Deputy Dean of the Engineering School Elena Krasnoslobodtseva. – “the topics, selected for lectures and master classes, are in highest demand in today’s industry. And children not just can try themselves in a role of a cell biologist or a web-sites developer, but also can get acquainted with modern equipment, learn something new about the world around them”.

All in all, 3 759 children took part in master classes in design and photography, biotechnologies and material science, book publishing history and interviewer’s skills, computer graphics and development of mobile applications, designing and prototyping. At the first lecture at the Moscow Poly the gurus of car design spoke to the schoolchildren about the automotive production. Department “Design” of the transport faculty prepared an exhibition of graduation works ‘Degree Show”, where the graduates presented their concepts of cars and described how the project should be developed from the level of a concept and up to implementation in a model.

The schoolchildren tried their abilities both in technical and humanitarian sciences. Thus, on the platform of the Moscow Poly Higher School of Printing and Media Industry, the schoolchildren participated in master classes in technologies of printing, in oratory and speaking in public, and, as well, took interviews, guided by the teachers of Departments “Journalism and mass communications” and “Advertisement and public relations in media industry”.

According to the coordinator of the project at the HSPMI, Head of Department of Professional Orientation and Work with Applicants Yaroslav Dmitriyev, the last season of the project showed the popularity of the flagman faculties of the school. “We are especially proud of a cycle of classes in the graphic design and printing techniques, prepared by a Senior Teacher of Department “Artistic and technical processing of printed matter” Olga Yakovleva. At her classes the participants got acquainted with technologies of processing the digital images by means of software products “Adobe Photoshop” and “Adobe Illustrator”, they mastered techniques of linocut print. In addition, in the framework of the project the schoolchildren attended a workshop on an ancient technique of printing on water – ebru. Participants could create unique graphic patterns with their own hands on the water surface and transfer them to the surface of the fabric or paper”, - says Yaroslav Dmitriyev.

Employees with practical experience and teachers of Department “Illustration and printmaking” told children about artistic skills in working with the books, while a researcher of the Museum of Printing History, Publishing and Ivan Fedorov MSUP Nataliya Medvedeva introduced the attendants to the history of writing and printing in different countries.
